Red Admiral butterfly, 18 July 2020.
The Red Admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) is a common UK butterfly. They are large butterflies and so dramatically coloured they can’t be mistaken.

Red Admiral butterfly, underwing. (18 July 2020)
Their plant foods are nettles and hops, of which there are plenty at the allotment.
We leave patches of nettles here and there in the woods and back patch, but perhaps should add a little bit of hop to the woods plant list to help support the butterfly population.
